Getting Started: Typing Rules
Your first step is understanding how to practise. There is no typing test, timer or speed target on this page.
Find a comfortable position
Keep the screen easy to read, shoulders relaxed and wrists comfortable. Place the keyboard within easy reach. Take a break if you feel tired or uncomfortable.
Find the home row
Rest your left fingers on A S D F and your right fingers on J K L ;. The raised marks on F and J help your index fingers find their starting places. Use a thumb for Space.
Use the finger guide
Follow the highlighted finger for the next key. Press gently, release the key and return to the home row. Build the movement gradually; looking down occasionally is normal while learning.
Copy carefully before typing fast
Start slowly. Match letters, capitals, spaces and punctuation. Focus on accurate movements first; speed develops with consistent practice.
Understand practice controls
The typing window shows your passage, input box and progress. Review Typing lets you inspect mistakes. Pause, Restart and Exit are available in Learn; they behave differently in Exams.
Complete lessons step by step
After this introduction, your first Home Row practice opens automatically with the duration you choose below. Every typing lesson offers 1, 3, 5, 10, 20 or 30 minutes. Finish a practice and meet its displayed accuracy target to unlock the next required lesson.
Make mistakes, then try again
A mistake is feedback, not a reason to rush. Review the result and retry if you miss the target. You can return to completed lessons whenever you need more practice.
Know where progress is saved
Sign in to save lesson completion and results to your account. Guests can read this introduction and try the first practice, but typing results do not unlock later lessons without an account.
Lesson guidance
Adjust your chair so your elbows rest comfortably near a right angle. Keep wrists neutral. Find the raised marks on F and J without looking. Use a light touch, read ahead, and let your thumbs handle spaces.
