Touch Typing Finger Guide

A clear reference to the same finger assignments used in the KeyTute typing window.

Start on the home row

The left-hand starting keys are A, S, D and F. The right-hand starting keys are J, K, L and semicolon. Use the marks on F and J, where present, to find the position without looking down.

Read the reference by finger

Each finger has a group of nearby keys. The index fingers each cover more than one column. The table below is derived from the shared typing-window mapping, so the reference and training guide use the same assignments.

Include the modifier

For a capital letter or shifted symbol, the shared guide combines the character finger with the opposite-hand Shift key. Practise the two movements together rather than stretching one hand to do both.

Remember layout differences

This is a QWERTY reference. Other physical layouts, language input methods and accessibility arrangements can differ. Use it to understand the KeyTute guide rather than as a claim that every keyboard has identical positions.

Left-hand characters use Right Shift; right-hand characters use Left Shift. Each Shift key uses its own hand's pinky. Shifted symbols keep the base key's finger assignment.

This QWERTY reference follows the shared KeyTute finger mapping. Other layouts and language input methods may differ.
