Gross WPM vs Net WPM
Separate how much you entered from how much was evaluated as correct.
Gross speed
Gross WPM measures typed characters using the activity’s word-length convention and duration. In general KeyTute typing activities, the convention is five characters per standard word.
General KeyTute net speed
The shared window and general Typing Tests calculate net WPM from correctly matched characters divided by five and elapsed minutes. This differs from systems that subtract errors per minute from gross WPM.
Exam calculations differ
The Exams module can use weighted error deductions and configurable units. Read its displayed rules rather than importing a net-WPM definition from a different activity or website.
Use both numbers
A large gap between gross and net speed suggests that accuracy deserves attention. Compare similar text and rules before using that gap to judge a change in ability.
