Keyboard Position & Setup

Give your hands a predictable starting position on the keyboard.

Centre the typing area

Place the letter keys in a position you can reach comfortably with both hands. A keyboard with a large number pad may need a different position from a compact keyboard; focus on the keys you will actually use.

Check the layout

The KeyTute finger reference describes a standard QWERTY layout. If your device uses another arrangement, key locations and shifted symbols may differ. Confirm the layout before following a diagram.

Find the landmarks

Use the raised marks on F and J where your keyboard provides them. Rest your index fingers there, then place the other fingers on the nearby home-row keys.

Keep the setup consistent

Use the same comfortable keyboard position while learning a new pattern. When you move to another device, begin with a gentle warm-up instead of expecting an identical score immediately.
