How to Place Your Fingers

Begin at the home row, then return there after each reach.

Place the left hand

Start with the left pinky on A, ring finger on S, middle finger on D and index finger on F. The index finger also reaches G and the nearby keys assigned to it in the reference.

Place the right hand

Start with the right index finger on J, middle finger on K, ring finger on L and pinky on semicolon. The index finger also reaches H and its surrounding assigned keys.

Use a thumb for Space

The shared typing guide assigns Space to the thumb group. Choose a comfortable thumb movement and keep it repeatable. You do not need to lift both hands away from the home row to insert a space.

Practise the return

Type a nearby key, then return to your starting position. Keeping a repeatable return is more useful than trying to keep every finger completely still. Open the full finger guide when a particular reach is unclear.
